ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS

Scope of ESL Accreditation

Application for ELSAC accreditation is open to legally registered private English language schools that have been offering English language courses for a minimum of six months (online/face-to-face/ blended) and have at least one student. Additionally, an English language school must agree to abide by ELSAC´s Code of Professional Conduct. The scope of accreditation does not extend to assistance in the development of English language courses. ELSAC will examine the course outline and modules. Also, ELSAC will only advise on improvements to policies and procedures and will issue a report.

STAGES OF ESL ACCREDITATION

Accreditation Process

ELSAC’s accreditation arrangements normally do not require visits to the school (although this may be required in exceptional cases). A visit to the school is waived to reduce costs to the school (especially small businesses and start-ups). Furthermore, at ELSAC, we believe that this policy creates a fair and level playing field and serves to improve standards across the board. There are 3 stages in the accreditation process >> Application Form >> Supporting Documentation >> Evaluation.

ESL ACCREDITATION
Stage 1: Application Form

The initial stage is for a school to complete and submit an application form to ELSAC. *No submission of supporting documentation is required at this stage of the process. If the application form is deemed satisfactory, then the school will be able to move onto stage 2.

Stage 2: Supporting Docs

During this stage of the accreditation process, an English language school will submit accompanying documentation and evidence to support the school´s application for accreditation. A library of sample templates & documents is provided. These may be referred to and re-purposed, but not copied verbatim.

Stage 3: Evaluation

This stage is essentially focused on weighing up the supporting documentation of the English language school´s ability to uphold and maintain the standards needed for an accreditation. The final decision on accreditation will then be decided by the Evaluation Council.

Points Profile & Report

The English Language School Accreditation Council has a Points Profile system that does not discourage newly established or smaller schools by disqualifying them. Moreover, the Points Profile system determines strengths, and weaknesses and offers recommendations to the course providers and institutions with which they can improve their standards. Points are assigned to each aspect of the eight key performance indicators (see Standards & Evidence). These scores are put together to form a matrix that measures the quality of an English language school from different perspectives.
